Medicine Meets Art — Call for Artistic Covers for Mediastinum

Published: 2025-08-05

Mediastinum invites you to contribute to our evolving cover design initiative—where medicine meets art.

We value contributions from artists, medical professionals, patients, families and friends, and anyone inspired to depict the science, emotion, or experience of care in the mediastinum.

Submissions will be reviewed for suitability. Once accepted, your artwork will be featured on the cover of a specialized medical journal indexed in PubMed and Scopus (2024 CiteScore: 2.3), reaching a global audience of medical professionals and researchers.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Theme: We welcome all forms of artistic expression related to mediastinal diseases and care, with a focus on the thymus and thymic conditions.

  • Submissions may not only explore the thymus through anatomy, pathology, imaging, surgery, or oncology, but also depict scenes of medical care or individuals involved in giving or receiving care—such as illustrations of a surgeon in the operating room or photographs associated with diagnosing or treatment of thymic tumors.
  • Contributions from patients, families, or friends may reflect the journey through treatment, hope, and resilience, etc.

2. Originality: Submissions must be original works, and contributors must hold the rights to their images.

3. Copyright: Upon acceptance and payment, the copyright of the image will be transferred to AME Publishing Company, the publisher of Mediastinum. The licensor will grant the publisher the sole and exclusive right to use the image.

4. Remuneration: Each accepted image will receive a remuneration of USD 300 from the publisher.

5. Attribution: Selected images will be credited to the contributor with their signature included on the cover. Additionally, a brief description of the image and an introduction to the artist will be highlighted in the “Cover Story” section of the journal website: https://med.amegroups.org/post/category/cover-story.

6. Format: Submissions should be high-resolution images (minimum 300 DPI) in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG formats. Artwork may include: digital creations, illustrations & drawings (ink, pencil, watercolor, etc.), paintings (acrylic, oil, gouache, watercolor on canvas or paper), photographs, sculptures & 3D artwork (ceramic, clay, porcelain -- submitted as photographs), and collages & mixed media.

7. Submission Process:

Each submission should include:

  • The image
  • A brief description (100-200 words) explaining the inspiration or meaning behind the artwork.
  • The medium (e.g., digital illustration, ink on paper, acrylic on canvas, porcelain sculpture)
  • Brief artist bio (optional)
