Dr. Suster took his basic training in pathology at the University of Tel-Aviv Sackler School of Medicine, Israel, followed by residency training in AP/CP at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami under Arkadi M. Rywlin, and a fellowship in research and surgical pathology at Yale University School of Medicine under Dr. Juan Rosai. He served as Director of Surgical Pathology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami and Professor of Pathology at the University of Miami School of Medicine from 1990-1997, and as Professor of Pathology and Director of the Division of Anatomic Pathology at the Ohio State University, Columbus, OH from 1998-2007. He then went on to become Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI, for the next 12 years. Dr. Suster is currently Chairman Emeritus at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Dr. Suster has published more than 400 peer-review articles, 40 book chapters, and 6 books. His work has centered mainly in the field of thoracic pathology, particularly oncologic surgical pathology of the mediastinum, lung, and pleura. He has also contributed to the literature in the areas of skin tumors, soft tissue neoplasms, thyroid pathology and others. He has been a regular invited speaker at all major national and international pathology meetings and has served as faculty for the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and other national and international organizations. He serves in 9 editorial boards and is co-Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Diagnostic Pathology.
