Bilateral diffuse pleural plaque with calcifications in pleural tuberculosis
Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading causes of deadliest infectious diseases in adults worldwide. Diffuse pleural plaque is a very rare manifestation in patients without history of TB or anti-TB therapy. In this case, the computed tomography (CT) scan suggests a bilateral pleural thickening with multiple pleural plaques, which was finally clinically confirmed as pleural TB by diagnostical anti-TB treatment instead of biopsy. This case highlights the importance of diagnostical anti-TB treatment; bilateral diffuse pleural plaque could be an unusual manifestation of pleural TB.
