Title: Vital Threads

Medium: Digital Art

Description: The art piece depicts a surgeon carefully examining the thymus as it is opened (and enlarged in the art piece) so as to bring further appreciation for the precision and skill of the surgeon. The surgeon is highly concentrated under the glow of the operating light and there is also a contrast present in the piece. That is between the glowing orange mediastinal structures and the cool blues of the operating room. This was done to show the duality through the ideas of vulnerability (the internal structure) and healing (the surgeons).

Artist: Talib Shah

Talib Shah is an American illustrator, designer, and poet currently studying as a senior at Hicksville High School in New York. With a growing interest in the intersection of art, medicine, and technology, Talib enjoys his time working on creative projects that demonstrate the emotional dimensions of medicine. Talib’s projects include illustrations, educational visuals, websites, apps, and stand-up poetry performances. He is also an active volunteer in his community by being involved in local clean-up efforts as he believes it is important to preserve the beautiful scenery of Long Island. From its shorelines and harbors to the open skies and quiet parks, these landscapes serve as a source of inspiration in his art and poetry. His work demonstrates the power of both art and science in illuminating the world around us.
